A former Chinese military general recently issued a warning that the worldwide-spreading Covid-19 pandemic is not an opportunity for Beijing to forcibly remove Taiwan.
The former Chinese general said that Beijing would have to concentrate all its national resources if it wanted to withdraw Taiwan by force.
According to SCMP, Qiao Liang, a former general in the Chinese air force, is considered aggressive in China. Mr. Qiao spoke in the context of Taiwan moving further away from China and the United States fiercely criticized China for the Covid-19 pandemic.
“China’s ultimate goal is not only to unify Taiwan, but also for the Chinese dream: for 1.4 billion Chinese to have a good life,” said Qiao, a professor at the National University. Chinese room in Beijing, he said.
“We should not consider withdrawing Taiwan as a top priority. If it is revoked by force, it will have to mobilize all resources and national force. Don’t put all the eggs in one basket, the cost will be very expensive, “said Qiao.

Beijing views Taiwan as an integral part of the mainland and will soon have to return to China.
Some former Chinese military generals see this as a better time to reclaim the island of Taiwan because the four US carriers operating in the Indo-Pacific are docked in the port due to the pandemic.
But Qiao, co-author of the book “Asymmetric Warfare: China’s Final Plan to Destroy the United States,” published in 2004, says that nationalism in China is very ominous.
In the book, the author calls on China to defeat rivals possessing modern weapons technology, such as the United States, with economic and diplomatic measures, rather than face-to-face military confrontation.
“It is undeniable that the United States’ military capacity is limited due to the Covid-19 epidemic, but this period is too short for China to solve strategic problems,” Qiao said.
Qiao said that if China seizes Taiwan by force, the United States may not declare war immediately, but instead with its regional allies to block Beijing’s sea routes.
The economic embargoes imposed by the United States and the West will damage the momentum of China’s economic development.
Mr. Qiao emphasized that the Taiwan problem cannot be solved unless the confrontation between the United States and China has not ended. “China’s economy is too dependent on the US dollar, and the war will only cause Beijing to suffer economic losses,” Qiao said. “The price paid is too high.”
