The meeting to announce the Politburo’s decision to appoint Finance Minister Dinh Tien Dung to serve as Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee took place on the morning of April 3.
The meeting was attended by the President of the National Assembly, Vuong Dinh Hue; Permanent secretariat Vo Van Thuong and many leaders of ministries and central branches.
After making the decision, the Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, Vo Van Thuong, said that Mr. Dinh Tien Dung is a mature and well-trained officer and has held many jobs from the central to the local level.
The Politburo believes that the new Hanoi Secretary with “political courage, ability, intelligence and great work experience” will continue to inherit the achievements and experiences of generations of leaders. In the new position, Mr. Dinh Tien Dung promised to “do his best, uphold the pioneering and exemplary character” and wishes to continue to receive the attention, leadership and direction of the Central Government.
Politburo member Finance Minister Dinh Tien Dung was appointed to serve as secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee to replace Mr. Vuong Dinh Hue, he was elected Chairman of the National Assembly.
Mr. Dinh Tien Dung, 60, from Ninh Giang Commune, Hoa Lu District, Ninh Binh Province; Master in Business Administration; Member of the Central Committee of the Party, period XI, XII, member of the Politburo period XIII; Deputies of the XIV National Assembly.
He has 25 years of experience in the Ministry of Construction, holding various positions in the areas of accounting, finance and Vice Minister of Construction.
After two years (June 2008 to October 2010) as chairman of the Dien Bien Provincial People’s Committee, he had one year as Secretary of the Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee (October 2010 to July 2011).
He held the position of State Auditor General from August 2011 to May 2013. From May 2013 until now, he has been Minister of Finance.
Mr. Dung’s predecessor, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Vuong Dinh Hue, also served as State Auditor General and Minister of Finance.
