In an interview with Rossiya Channel 1 on March 28, President Putin said he had a feeling of discomfort at the injection site after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine on March 23. “I woke up the next morning and still had a slight ache in my muscles. I take a thermometer and my temperature is normal, “said President Putin.
The leader did not reveal which of the three Russian-made vaccines he had injected, but claimed they were the “best in the world” today. The injection was also not released to the public, and only the doctor gave the president the name of the vaccine. Earlier, President Putin said it was a personal decision because Russia did not force people to get vaccinated.
The three Russian vaccines are Sputnik V, EpiVacCorona, and CoviVac. The Sputnik V type is better known, but President Putin believes that the effectiveness of all three is equal.
Russia began its extensive immunization program in January 2021 and the most recent data shows that more than 6 million people have received one dose and more than 4 million have received 2 doses.
President Putin hopes that Russia will achieve public immunity and lift regulations to prevent the Covid-19 epidemic from the end of next summer. Experts say that community immunity can be achieved when around 70% of the population becomes immune through vaccination or when antibodies are formed through recovery from infection.
