According to the case file, 40 years ago Nguyen Van Ky led a criminal gang using military weapons, leading to many cases of robbery in Minh Hai province (now Bac Lieu province). Due to a conflict with a young man in the group, Ky used a gun to shoot this man.
In 1981, Ky was arrested and sentenced to death for murder and robbery. In 1987, Ky was reduced from the death penalty to life imprisonment. In 1989, Ky escaped from prison and was wanted.
On March 19, the Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province Criminal Police Department received information that Nguyen Van Ky was hiding in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. Through the investigation, the police discovered a man with similar characteristics to Ky, named Tran Van Son, born in 1950.
Previously, “Son” lived in the Long Dien district, but he left about 3 years ago. Extended verification, criminal recognition discovered in Phuoc Thuan Commune, Xuyen Moc District, Ba Ria Province – Vung Tau, there is an elderly couple living in a temporary home. The man in this house also makes a living by catching crabs and snails. Police identified this person as Nguyen Van Ky.
On the morning of March 20, the police surrounded this house and reviewed the administration. However, Ky is not open. After more than 30 minutes of closing the barricaded door at the house, Nguyen Van Ky will open the door to work with the police.
At first, Ky was stubborn, corrupt, did not admit his identity, but later admitted that he was “Nguyen Van Ky”, who escaped the camp more than 30 years ago.
