When purchasing Sony’s genuine PlayStation 5, customers were asked to purchase more controllers and a number of game discs, increasing the total cost by tens of millions of dong.

“I can only choose to buy a console with a controller and 3 game discs. If I don’t take the controller, I have to buy 5 game discs,” Minh said. In fact, I just wanted to buy one more controller. “I decided not to buy any more because the store was not retailing the device. If I bought the combo, the amount exceeded the original quota. The packaged game was not very attractive to me,” he said. Each genuine PlayStation 5 game disc is priced at approximately VND 2 million by stores, the genuine controller selling price is VND 2 million.
Also, many people reflect that the genuine price of PlayStation 5 is climbing much higher than the listing. A lot of people have pre-ordered, but when the device came back, it was announced that the price of the PlayStation 5 was 17.5 million dong, 3 million dong more than the advertised price of Sony Vietnam.
On some e-commerce sites, this Sony gaming device sells for around 18 million VND but is not available, or 19.5 million VND if purchased with a controller, but must be reserved in advance.
According to a Sony dealer, the number of the first 5 batches of PlayStation 5 was very small and highly sought after, so there was a shortage of products. As a result, some stores demanded to sell machines with accessories to increase sales of game controllers and discs. “The stores also have a quota of selling game discs, controllers and accessories,” the person said. According to the distributors, although customers are not satisfied with the purchase of the machine “with peanuts”, due to the small number of devices, the first batch of products has been sold out.
According to a representative of Sony Vietnam’s PlayStation product line, the company does not have a policy that requires PlayStation 5 to sell accessories. On the official website, buyers can also choose to buy their own device, their own controller, or a game disc separately, depending on their needs. However, the quantity of goods in the first sale was not much, so it was sold out after only a few minutes of sale.
Currently, the price of PlayStation 5 for portable products has decreased, from VND 18 million for the digital version (unitless) and VND 21 million for the unit version, compared to VND 35 million when it first arrived. Sony Vietnam original products cost 14.5 million, but they only sell the disc.
