The source of transmission for three cases in Le Chan, Hai Phong, is determined not to be from Vietnam.

Specifically, information from the Vietnam International Health Regulations (IHR) Focal Office shows that the Australian side has performed genetic sequencing and responded to the strain of virus that causes illness in the parents and children of sister NTLH. On Nguyen Cong Tru Street, Le Chan district, Hai Phong city, is the South African variant (B.1.351).

This variant of the virus is not currently recognized in the Vietnamese community. Vietnam has only recorded one case of an immigration specialist infected with this strain at the end of December 2020, who was quarantined shortly after entry.

Furthermore, the Australian side also registered two more passengers on the same flight with Ms H.’s family from Singapore to Australia infected with this virus. Therefore, it is very likely that these patients were infected with the flight virus or from Singapore, not from Vietnam.

The Australian side will continue to contact Singapore for more information on the virus strains causing the disease in this country.

Prior to that, on February 28, NTLH (42 years old) and her two sons, TGM (11 years old) and TDH (18 years old) moved from Noi Bai Airport to Changi Airport in Singapore (on flight SQ191 departing at 12:35 on February 28). After that, parents and children stayed in the waiting room at Changi Airport, Singapore, for the period from 4:00 p.m. on February 28 to 9:00 a.m. on March 1, before connecting to Australia.

Ms H.’s parents and children then flew to Australia from Singapore on flight SQ211, landing at Canberra airport on 1-3. After arriving in Australia, their parents and children were taken to an isolation facility in accordance with Australian government regulations for the 14-day quarantine.

On March 3, TDH’s son tested positive; On March 6, Ms. NTLH had a positive test result; On March 11, the archbishop also had a positive result.

Immediately after receiving information about the cases, the Hai Phong Health Department issued Urgent Notice No. 4 for people who had been in close contact with the above cases during the period 20-28-2. Notify your local health. healthcare provider for guidance on how to take appropriate medical action.

At the same time, perform zoning, medical isolation and disinfection fumigation in the homes involved in the case. Currently, the Le Chan district is also implementing zoning and medical isolation at 7 points with 10 households and 20 people.

At 11:00 on March 12, the districts verified and discovered 16 cases of F1; 124 F2 cases; Another 45 cases related to address No. 184 Nguyen Cong Tru. 61 people were taken, 61/61 samples were negative (16 F1 samples, 1 F2 sample, 44 related samples).

The Hai Phong Health Department will continue to closely monitor and receive information from the Preventive Medicine Department to inform city leaders about direct response activities based on the epidemic situation.
