Biden seemed to forget the name of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin when he called him “the man in the suit standing there” during the nomination ceremony for the two female generals.

US President Joe Biden and Secretary of Defense Austin on March 8 attended the nomination event for two female generals, Jacqueline Van Ovost and Laura Richardson, at the White House.

At the beginning of the event, Biden called the Pentagon chief “Minister Austin” but apparently read on a typewriter.

The 78-year-old Biden has struggled multiple times with the names of the ministers he nominated for the cabinet. In December, he mispronounced the name of Health and Human Services candidate Xavier Becerra, then corrected it, but he was still wrong.

Biden promoted Gen. Van Ovost to Transportation Command commander and Lt. Gen. Richardson to Southern Command commander on March 8, International Women’s Day.

If approved by the US Senate, Van Ovost and Richardson will increase to three the number of women appointed to command a headquarters in US military history. In 2016, former President Barack Obama appointed General Lori Robinson commander of the US Northern Command, and General Robinson served in this position for two years.
