According to Reuters, 19 people is the most recent number since the media reported that at least three Myanmar policemen have crossed the border into India.
Reuters sources said they crossed the border into Champhai and Serchhip, two districts located in the northeastern state of Mizoram, India and bordering Myanmar. They are all unarmed and have low jaws.
“We anticipate that more people will come here,” the Reuters source said based on intelligence reports.
According to this official, the Myanmar police crossed the border for fear of being penalized for appealing the order. The Indian government will make temporary accommodation arrangements for them. “They don’t want to take orders against the antisocial movement,” he said.
The protest movement broke out in Myanmar after the army regained power and arrested civilian government leaders on February 1.
While the military has declared this as its response to Myanmar’s 2020 election fraud suspicions, western countries are calling it the coup.
The European Union (EU) suspended development aid programs for Myanmar on March 4 to avoid financial aid to the military. Last year, the EU contributed more than $ 240.7 million to many separate programs in Myanmar, with terms typically lasting up to four years.
Another Indian police officer said the local government was checking the health of three of the people who crossed the border here. These three people crossed the border into North Vanlaiphai City, Serchhip District on 3-3.
“They say they receive instructions from military leaders that they cannot obey. Then they run away. They are seeking asylum because of the military rule in Myanmar, ”Serchhip Police Director Stephen Lalrinawma told Reuters.
