A total of eight Chinese fighters entered Taiwan’s air defense detection area after the territory announced a new intelligence and security official.
In recent months, China has increased its military operations around the island of Taiwan, according to Reuters. The move, Beijing explained, is aimed at dealing with “collusion” between Taipei and Washington, the largest supplier of weapons and foreign powers to back Taiwan.

The Taiwan side said that on February 19, the Chinese military sent four J-16 fighters and four JH-7 fighters near the Taipei air defense detection area at sea. Taipei has issued radio alerts and deployed missile defense systems for surveillance.
The incident came shortly after Taiwan announced the appointment of a number of high-ranking security officials, including Chiu Kuo-cheng, the new official assigned to the modernization of the armed forces and the Taiwan newspaper. Chiu graduated from the United States Army War College in 1999.
China sends fighter jets near Taiwan every day, Reuters said. However, the last time the country sent a large number of fighters like February 19 was on January 24 with 12 fighters.
