Three days later, she was informed that her sister-in-law was positive for nCoV in Japan and was examined by medical personnel. According to the attending physician at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, “patient 1552” has pneumonia, the lung has nodular lesions and translucent glass. On January 29, the patient with fever, shortness of breath and fatigue was transferred from the Department of General Internal Medicine to the Emergency Department for treatment. Currently, he still has a fever, but has less shortness of breath, less fatigue, and is able to eat.

“Patient 1552” is the first recorded Covid-19 case from this outbreak, with “patient 1553”. He was in contact with a positive Hai Duong girl in Japan who was determined to be infected with the UK nCoV variant. This variant is approximately 50-70% more infectious than a known strain.

The treatment regimen for patient 1552 did not differ from the rest of the patients, but the level of protection was increased to prevent the risk of infection, the treating physician said. The Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology have sequenced the genetic material of the two patients to determine the virus strain, and the results are not yet available.
