Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is expected to remain in Washington, DC, to join the Hudson Institute, a conservative policy research body.
Pompeo took a job at the Hudson Institute, where he would have the opportunity to participate in policy discussions and reach out to key Republican supporters, US media reported on January 26. This is said to be a move to pave the way for the former US secretary of state to run for president in 2024, observers said.
“I am delighted to join the Hudson Institute and look forward to contributing my strength to America’s mission of promoting global leadership and cooperation,” Pompeo said in a response to the Axios news site.
The Hudson Institute is well known among its conservative politicians, who see it as a platform to propose policies.
“Secretary Pompeo’s exemplary record of values that underpin our mission makes him an exciting partnership opportunity,” said Sarah May Stern, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hudson Institute.
The day after President Joe Biden took office, former Secretary of State Pompeo tweeted “1,384 days,” the exact same number of days until the 2024 presidential election in the United States.
