(29, from Lam Dong) suffered an unusual hemiplegia complication after caesarean section at Mekong Obstetrics Hospital (BV) (Tan Binh district, Ho Chi Minh City).
The above incident was just Ms. Th. Posted on the personal page on January 19 caused a stir in the online community, many urgent opinions on BV’s way of working.
Arbitrarily changing the cesarean section method, leaving pregnant women partially paralyzed?
Specifically, according to a complaint, on November 2, 2020, to the Mekong Maternity Hospital for hospitalization. Pregnant women indicated for cesarean section due to extensive pregnancy, gestational diabetes, history of allergy to anesthetics, narrow pelvis.
After completing the hospital admission procedures, Ms. Th. Will be taken to check in at the accommodation
Here, midwives examine and inquire about the pregnant woman’s condition. reported a history of allergy to anesthesia.
Midwives can hear clearly and paste the above allergy note to pregnant women.
In the preoperative room, the woman again presented a history of 2 allergies to anesthesia and required anesthesia.
Ekip directly conducted a preoperative consultation and agreed to anesthetize Ms Th.
However, according to Mr. P., upon entering the operating room, an anesthesiologist named LQH voluntarily switched from anesthesia to anesthesia.
“The doctor ignored the patient’s anesthetic allergy history, ignored the results of the preoperative consultation, voluntarily anesthetized my wife even though she was begging in the operating room.
And neither I nor my family members have been notified in advance.
After injecting anesthetic into the spinal cord, my wife had severe seizures and vomited continuously during the procedure. “ – said Mr. P. urgently.
The husband also said that after a cesarean section, Th. Was taken to the recovery room and found she was paralyzed on the left side, completely unable to move.
Mekong Obstetric Hospital recognizes inappropriate anesthesia
After the pregnant woman had complications, the doctors called Mr. P. to report the postoperative status but did not mention the problem of voluntary anesthesia.
At the same time, the hospital proposed to contact the Gia Dinh People’s Hospital to support consultation, testing and treatment. After stabilizing, they will return to Mekong Hospital for postpartum care.
However, according to the husband, during the time his wife was transferred to the Department of Endocrinology and Hematology at Gia Dinh People’s Hospital, the Mekong Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was not present to provide support and monitoring.
On November 4, 2020, pregnant Th. Was discharged from the hospital by the Gia Dinh Popular Hospital with a diagnosis of hemiplegia with recovery 2 days after cesarean section, indicated for medical treatment.
Some time later, Ms. Th. Was invited by a Mekong Hospital physiotherapist to practice and rehab.
But according to Mr. P., the practice time is often interrupted, the doctor does not come for many days, and the obstetrician hospital shows signs of delay, neglect of treatment.
During the 49-day postpartum period, Ms. Th. Was taken for lab, subclinical and film tests at Mekong Hospital … at a higher level hospital, but the results were normal.
“My family mentioned if my wife had this due to an allergy to anesthetics, but the doctors refused to answer the question. Until now, my wife still cannot control the left half, such as psychological trauma, night panic, insomnia.
My family and the BV Board of Directors had two preliminary working sessions on the direction of solving this medical problem, but BV has not yet had an official response. “ – Mr. P. raised his question.
It should be noted that in the working minutes between the two parties, the results of the professional council meeting of November 24, 2020 of the hospital determined that the spinal anesthesia method was not appropriate; The cause of half-human weakness in pregnant women has not been found.
The BV leaders stated that they will be responsible for Dr. H.’s subjective error in using the anesthetic method without informing his family members.
However, the Mekong hospital said there is no evidence of side effects of anesthesia for the patient.
“I noticed that the Board of Directors is trying to find another reason why my wife is paralyzed after giving birth.
BV does not admit that due to the irresponsible behavior of Dr. H. when he was careless, irresponsible and neglected the medical history of the patient, he changed the surgical method from anesthesia to anesthesia for such serious consequences“- Mr. P. wrote on the application and said that his wife was diagnosed with severe depression and psychosis by a psychiatrist.
Treatment process, Ms. Th. She also suffered a strong weight loss, normal activities like carrying babies, breastfeeding, personal hygiene, walking … all need help from family members.
Meanwhile, the cost of hospitalization and living increases day by day.
In addition, the family of the pregnant woman also said that many times they requested to provide a summary of the medical records but it was not resolved by the Mekong Maternity.
“I want to send this complaint to the departments to request the investigation and verification of my wife’s medical incident.
Propose to the BV Board of Directors to resolve it in accordance with the law “ – desired husband.
On the morning of January 20, we contacted the representative of the Mekong Maternity to get a clear answer, but the secretary and the director of the newspaper had not returned from the hospital.
The BV will save the requested information and respond later.
We will continue to report on this incident.
