The first three volunteers received a 25 mcg booster dose. The vaccine initially produces a very good immune response.
On the morning of January 14, the Military Medical Academy began injecting 2 doses of the 25 mcg Nanocovax vaccine to the first 3 volunteers from group 1 (including 20 people) 28 days after injection 1.
The first 3 volunteers, including 1 male and 2 female, are between 21 and 42 years old. The remaining 17 people in Group 1 are scheduled to receive the second vaccine on January 17.
After the second injection, the 3 volunteers are in stable health, stay at the Military Medical Academy to monitor 24 hours before going home. After injection 1, 2/3 of the volunteers had mild fever and pain at the injection site, but all disappeared after 24 hours, in the other cases there was no reaction.
The research staff prepares the dose of the Nanocovax 25mcg vaccine before the injection
Also on the same day, 10 volunteers plus 1 dose of the 75 mcg Nanocovax vaccine will be injected 1 day earlier than the original plan with permission from the Ministry of Health.
Adjunct Professor Dr. Ho Anh Son, deputy director of the Institute for Military Medical Research, Military Medical Academy, said the research group had tested phase 1 on more than 40 volunteers in the 3 groups with doses of 25 mcg, 50 mcg. and 75 mcg. Through monitoring, the health of the volunteers is stable, the spirit is completely normal.
The first 3 volunteers in Vietnam received 2 injections of the Nanocovax vaccine produced by the Nanogen company
After the injection, the volunteers received blood samples on Saturday 14 and 21 for the research team to evaluate their immunogenicity and ability to neutralize the virus.
“The initial results are evaluated that the Nanocovax vaccine is very safe, creating a very good immune response. After the second injection, the amount of antibodies will continue to skyrocket 4-5 times, even 20 times ”, Associate Professor Son.
The research team will continue to monitor the health of the volunteers for another 6 months, 1 year to assess whether the antibody is stable or not and for how long.
“The study has passed more than half of phase 1, so we are processing data, sending ethical records to the Ministry of Health to determine the appropriate dose for phase 2. Most likely phase 2 starting just after the Lunar New Year and keeping 2 doses, ”said Associate Professor Son.
According to Associate Professor Son, compared to the volunteer selection criteria of many of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies, Vietnam requires stricter criteria. There were Dong Thap volunteers who waited 5 days for the injection, but after 3 tests there was an unsatisfactory rate, so they still had to leave.
In phase 1, due to research that focuses on evaluating the safety of the vaccine and detecting the optimal dose, volunteers must ensure that they have a BMI of 18-28, never have had an allergic or hypersensitive reaction .
However, in phase 2, the criteria will be much broader, requiring the participation of 560 volunteers.
