After the completion of the Japan-sponsored Hai Van 1 tunnel in 2005, traffic conditions on the route have improved substantially, shortening travel on the trans-Vietnam route.

However, due to the overcrowding of vehicles, the construction of the Hai Van 2 tunnel is urgently needed.

Hai Van 2 road tunnel is the longest road tunnel in Southeast Asia and belongs to the Deo Ca road tunnel project, which includes Co Ma, Deo Ca, Cu Mong and Hai Van tunnels with a total initial investment for the four of them. the project is 26.154 billion dong. The project is invested by Deo Ca Group Joint Stock Company.
The Hai Van tunnel section is divided into 2 phases. Phase 1 of upgrade and repair of the Hai Van 1 Tunnel to address degradation that needs restoration and repair has been completed since August 2017.
Phase 2, organization of the construction of the Hai Van 2 tunnel with a total route length of 12.4 km, the length of the tunnel is 6.2 km.
Hai Van 2 Tunnel runs parallel to Hai Van 1 Tunnel, which connects TT-Hue province and Da Nang. The tunnel was completed after more than 4 years of construction. |
