At the first rally session of the 117th National Assembly, the United States House of Representatives elected Ms. Nancy Pelosi of the Democratic Party as Speaker of the House of Representatives. According to AFP, only 427/435 members of the House of Representatives voted on March 3 because some of the elected MPs were quarantined due to the Covid-19 epidemic and a race in New York was not over.
Additionally, Louisiana Congressman-elect Luke Letlow from the Republican Party last week died of Covid-19.
In the March 3 vote, Pelosi received 216 votes while the leader of the Republican Party in this agency, Kevin McCarthy, received 209 votes. There are five Democrats who do not vote for Ms. Pelosi.

Today, Democrats still have a majority in the lower house, but with the lowest difference in two decades. This party currently has 222 seats, the Republican Party has 211 seats and 2 vacant seats.
With her re-election, this will be the fourth and possibly last term as Speaker of the House of Representatives for Ms. Pelosi, who will turn 80 this year. She was also the first woman to hold the position.
A small incident occurred when Republican Senator Chip Roy asked MPs from six states that President Donald Trump challenge the election results not to sit as a member of the House of Representatives. However, this effort was extinguished after a vote, through which Mrs. Pelosi affirmed the right to swear in the members of the House of Representatives.
In the Senate, Vice President Mike Pence also presided over the oath of 32 senators. Republicans still have an advantage in this agency when two Georgia seats have not been elected.
