On January 2, An Giang province police said they were investigating and clarifying the murder of an 8-month-old grandmother in Vinh Trung commune, Tinh Bien district.
According to the initial investigation, on the afternoon of December 26, 2020, the home of Ms. Nèang Nhay (60 years old, resident of Vinh Trung commune) held a ceremony to bless according to the Khmer custom.
Around 5:00 p.m. on the same day, the mother of Chau Som Pha Quin (8 months) brought her baby to her grandmother to take her to the bedroom.

Later, Ms. Nhay took a knife and left the bedroom to commit suicide, but everyone discouraged her. Police were present to examine the scene and examine the body to serve the investigation.
According to her family, Nhay had a mental history 10 years ago. After a period of treatment, in September 2020, Ms Nhay went home to take the daily medication prescribed by her doctor.
