This is a new strain that was recently registered in the UK, the one that infected patient 1435, it also has a D614G mutation, which was known to spread rapidly 4-5 months ago.

According to the Ministry of Health, patient 1435 is a woman, born in 1976, hometown of Tra Vinh province, returned to Vietnam on December 22, 2020 and is concentrated in isolation right in Tra Vinh.

The patient has had a history of hypertension for 10 years and is in good treatment. Before returning to Vietnam, patient 1435 was in stable health. After being admitted and isolated for a day, patient 1435 with symptoms of a sore throat and low fever was taken to the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City for a positive test on December 24, 2020.

At the same time, the patient was transferred to isolation and treated at the Tra Vinh Hospital for Tuberculosis and Pulmonary Disease with a diagnosis of acute amydal inflammation and decreased clinical symptoms from December 24 to 30, 2020.

On December 31, 2020, the patient had a mild cough, no sore throat, no fever, no shortness of breath, and X-ray images had blurry basal lung lesions. Currently, the patient is diagnosed with pneumonia control and continues to receive follow-up treatment at the Tuberculosis and Pulmonary Disease Hospital of Tra Vinh province.

Because the husband, who lives in the same house as patient 1435, currently in the UK, has been tested and has also tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.

The Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, a testing unit to detect a patient infected with a variant of the virus, sent a report to the Department of Preventive Medicine.
