Of a total of 31 Vietnamese who have tried the Covid-19 vaccine, about 60-70% develop side effects such as a mild fever or mild pain at the injection site.

On the afternoon of December 30, the representative of the Military Medical Academy said that the unit had just continued testing the Covid-19 Nanocovax vaccine for the remaining members of group 1B: injection of 50 µg.

A test injection was performed after the first 3 members of this group had no abnormal reactions 72 hours after the injection.

Today, 8 out of 17 people in group 1B have completed a test injection. Thus, a total of 31 people are currently vaccinated with Covid-19 “made in Vietnam”, including 20 people from group 1A and 11 people from group 1B.

According to the representative of the Military Medical Academy, among the 31 people who had been tested, about 60-70% had side effects such as mild fever or mild pain at the injection site.

Most cases of fever are very mild, only from 37.1 degrees Celsius and the highest is 37.8 degrees Celsius, they do not need medication. Most minor pain only occurs 1 to 2 hours after the injection.

These are the normal side effects of getting vaccinated, because the body will make antibodies against the antigens in the vaccine, according to the Institute. Most people with side effects go away completely after 24 hours.

According to the plan, the group of 20 people who inject themselves with the highest dose: 75 (g (in group 1C) can receive a test injection next week, if approved by the Ethics Council of the Ministry of Health.

The injection was done as the 2 previous doses of 25 mcg and 50 mcg. Specifically, there will be 3 randomly selected volunteers in the group for the pre-injection. After 72 hours of health check at the Military Medical Academy, if these 3 people are not abnormal, the remaining 17 members will receive a test injection.

According to Dr. Do Minh Si, Director of Research and Development, Nanogen Company (Nanocovax vaccine development unit), the main objective of phase 1 of the clinical trial is to evaluate the safety of the vaccines, initially the immunogenicity response rate of 3 doses of Nanocovax.

After completing the phase 1 clinical trial. The Ethics Council of the Ministry of Health and relevant parties will evaluate the results to make the decision to perform a phase 2 trial injection.

During this phase, volunteers will be divided into an immunogenetic group and a placebo injection group, with a total of approximately 200-400 participants.

Phase 3 will be tested on 10,000-30,000 people. If all goes well, Vietnam is expected to complete all 3 phases of clinical trials by the end of 2021.

The Ministry of Health and the Military Medical Academy affirmed that the final objective of the study is to guarantee the safety of the participating volunteers. If an abnormality is found, the investigation team will stop the test immediately.
