However, another notable change from Mi 11 is that Xiaomi has removed the charger attached to the box. This is considered a step “in the footsteps” of Apple, after the iPhone 12 generation released in September was sold without the attached charger. This information was confirmed by the CEO of Xiaomi, Mr. Lei Jun 2 days before the official launch of Mi 11.

Today, at an event taking place in China, Mr. Lei Jun personally spoke about this decision by Xiaomi. According to him, the fact that Xiaomi does not sell the charger with Mi 11 also comes from the reason of environmental protection, because most of the users already have compatible chargers.

“Environmental protection” is also the reason Xiaomi gave for removing the charger.

However, for those users who really need a charger, Xiaomi will give them completely free of charge. By default, Mi 11 will not come with a charger, but users can choose the version that comes with a 55W GaN charger without spending an extra penny. However, Mr. Lei Jun encourages users with fast chargers not to choose this version for “environmental protection” reasons as mentioned above.

Xiaomi’s approach is welcomed by users, as it still maintains the spirit of “protecting the environment”, without affecting the interests of consumers. This is the complete opposite of Apple, where removing the charger is essentially a way to increase profits. The cable that comes with the new iPhone is based on the USB-C standard, and most users still use the charger with USB-A output, which is not compatible with this cable. Therefore, most iPhone 12 users will still have to buy more chargers. And of course Apple will charge for this charger, not free like Xiaomi.
