48 years of women wandering with memory fragments
In 1969, a mother sent her 4 children, Phuong – Thang – Hong – Dung, to the Long Thanh orphanage. In February 1972, after a raid, 4 cousins each had a place. Ms. Phuong, the eldest, was born in Chung Thuy (Dong Nai) orphanage village, then asked three children, Thang – Hong – Dung, to come back, so the 4 sisters got together.

Through research, Long Thanh Orphanage Village, 60 kilometers from Saigon, near Bien Hoa, has an area of almost 1 square kilometer. The children here shaved their hair, wore yellow robes, and became vegetarians, raised by lay Buddhists. Due to constant warfare, families across South Vietnam found a safe place to send their children. But their parents did not expect that, in just one night in 2.1972, the town would be closed, their children would be disarmed and they wandered the small orphanages without their noticing. 3,000 orphans from 1 to 16 years old go everywhere. |
Later, for various reasons, Ms. Phuong and Mr. Thang left the Chung Thuy Orphanage Village, promised to return to pick up the two children, but have since disappeared. Some time later, Ms. Hong was adopted by a family. Mr. Dung is the only person who has stayed at the orphanage, so far he is an adult, he is married and works here.
It is known that Ms. Hong passed away a long time ago. At that time, Mr. Dung was the only person left in the Chung Thuy Village Orphanage, growing up with fragmentary memories. Sharing with Thanh Nien, Mr. Tran Chi Dung (53, Trang Bom District, Dong Nai) choked:
“At 15 I left, I can say that I left like hell. For 9 years alone I traveled through 12 provinces of Vung Tau, Phan Thiet, Kien Giang, Tien Giang … to combine memories and meet my brothers. Whoever hired me to do it, did it honestly, and many times I would like to publish information to find you, but to no avail ”.
Mr. Dung added that each of his brothers and sisters left memories, and over time he was unable to keep them, but their memories remained. “The last time Phuong came to visit me, he gave me a scarf, and when he left, he also had a cold shirt in the closet. At that point, I stayed with me and cried, crawling into the closet to miss her. I keep the memories but the souvenirs I have already lost. There is no home, there is no family. In the rain, they rotted and I lost it. “

As for Ms. Phuong, after dropping off the two children at the orphanage village, she told herself that she would return to pick them up, but due to her difficult livelihoods, her promise could not be kept. She said: “My children have grown up wondering why my mother has no relatives, I also explain. Many times I searched by myself, but the city had changed so much, at that time it was empty but now the houses were very close together ”.

The dream of reuniting after 48 lost years has come true with the Phuong sisters, Mr. Thang and Mr. Dung. When we met, Ms. Phuong always asked Mr. Dung, “Are you angry with me? Because I didn’t keep my promise to pick you up. I was very indecisive when I submitted the file to the program because I thought when I found you, if you were rich, I would be happy for you. If you are in trouble, I am very sad because I have nothing to compensate you ”. Mr. Dung smiled and replied, “I’m not mad at you. If I’m mad at you, I won’t come looking for you. “

Currently, Ms. Phuong lives with her 37-year-old son who has had an accident and cannot work in Dong Xoai. Mr. Thang and his family live in Ca Mau. And Mr. Dung, his wife and children live in Trang Bom (Dong Nai). For more than 27 years, he has been a guard at an orphanage in Dong Nai. “I am happier when I met you and my billions. Our life is like everyone else now. We have brothers and relatives, ”said Mr. Dung.
Gathered together, they went to visit each brother’s home together, from Mr. Dung and Ms. Phuong’s home to Mr. Thang’s home at the far end of the country. Ms. Phuong shared that we were happy, but everyone in the neighborhood was happy and came to visit us.
