But to ensure safety, the 3 volunteers will continue to stay at the Military Medical Academy for another 1-2 days.
Currently, the Military Medical Academy is also submitting to the National Council of Ethics in Biomedical Research for their opinion before injecting the next 17 people in a 25 mcg dose group.
On the morning of December 17, the Military Medical Academy began testing the Covid-19 vaccine on the first volunteer. In the afternoon, 2 more volunteers were injected. All three were given the lowest dose of 25 mcg in order to assess the safety of the vaccine and find the optimal dose.
Mr. Nguyen Ngo Quang, Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Training of the Ministry of Health, said that in phase 1 there was no control group. The 60 volunteers were divided into 3 groups, respectively, injecting 3 levels of 25 mcg, 50 mcg and 75 mcg.
Phase 2 will be divided into immunogenetics and placebo injections with a total of approximately 200-400 volunteers. Phase 3 will require between 1,500 and 3,000 volunteers and will be expanded to 10,000 people. The test is performed in the form of the knee. If all goes well, Vietnam is expected to complete all 3 phases of clinical trials by the end of 2021.
The Ministry of Health and the Military Medical Academy affirmed that the final objective of the study is to guarantee the safety of the participating volunteers. If an abnormality is found, the equipment will stop the test immediately.
