The polls opened on the morning of December 14 (local time), while more than 1.2 million voters requested absentee ballots and more than 200,000 voters completed voting by mail, according to the report. CNBC broadcasts data collected by the US Election Project.
As the year-end holiday season approaches, snap elections are expected to play a pivotal role in the final outcome of the Senate race on May 5.
Before that, early voting accounted for more than half of the nearly 5 million votes in Georgia as of January 3.
On May 5, Republican Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler faced off with Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock. The rematch took place after no candidate received more than 50% of the vote on Election Day 3.11.
As of now, the Republic temporarily controls the Senate with 50 seats compared to 48 seats for Democracy. If democracy changes the flag in this race for Georgia, Vice President Kamala Harris will have the deciding vote, allowing democracy to unify control of the White House and Congress.
If the Republic wins Georgia, even by a single seat, it will continue to control the Senate.
