AmericaProtests against the election results in Washington, DC, erupted into violence when Trump supporters clashed with groups against him.
Organizers of the “Stop Stealing” campaign with church organizations on 12/12 called on supporters of US President Donald Trump to join the march and pray to protest the election results.
Trump supporters carry flags and banners marching across the Supreme Court, the Capitol and the Washington metropolitan area. Very few people wear masks, despite the mayor’s decree and the complicated Covid-19 epidemic.
“Apparently the election was stolen. Trump is being kicked out of the White House,” said Mark Paul Jones, a man from Delaware, Pennsylvania, on his way to the Supreme Court.
Eddy Miller, a Philadelphia resident, said he was “sure of fraud” even though the court dismissed Trump’s allegations of voter fraud.
About 200 far-right members of the Proud Boys joined the march near Trump’s hotel. They wear bulletproof helmets and armor. The Proud Boys member confronted Trump opponents on the night of December 12.
Police mobilized to separate the two groups and use tear gas to disperse the crowd. One was hit by bullets and three others were arrested after the clashes.
The protests also took place in many other areas of the United States, including Atlanta, Alabama, and Mobile, Georgia.
The Supreme Court of the United States rejected on December 11 the lawsuit filed by Texas and 17 other states demanding the cancellation of the election results in four states of the battlefield that Trump lost: Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Before that, West Virginia became the latest state to certify the results of the presidential election, officially declaring that President Donald Trump won 5 state electoral votes.
President-elect Joe Biden is expected to get 306 electoral votes and Trump is expected to obtain 232 electoral votes. The candidate needs at least 270 electoral votes out of a total of 538 to become president. However, Trump still refused to admit defeat and continued to accuse electoral fraud, although he did not provide concrete evidence.
