Colonel Mai Hoang received a package of salt with green chili on the stage of the 10th Congress of Patriotic Emulation, on December 10.
The gift from the organizers reminded the 41-year-old Colonel, Subdirectorate of Criminal Police to remember the days of “eating the mountain, sleeping in the forest” with the Son La Special Police Force, 1st Battalion of Special Forces (Ministry of Public Security) ambush drug crimes on the border between Vietnam and Laos.
When he was the chief of the Moc Chau district police, he used to be with his teammates hundreds of times to search for drug crimes along the Van Ho border strip, Moc Chau, one of the key points on the route of cross-border drug transport.
In late spring 2016, the ambush group was in the forest 4 km from the border. Before the march, they brought with them dried wages, squeezed rice balls, salt and green peppers, determined to stay in the forest for a long time. It was past midnight, it was raining. Reconnaissance reports uncovered groups of 30 armed individuals transporting “goods” across the border.
“30 subjects or 300 subjects also hit,” Mai Hoang said.
The ambush team split two shots, 4 people in the group of gunners and 6 soldiers carrying AK weapons. To ensure secrecy, the team took off their gear, stripped off the bulletproof armor, folded the body in half, and went into the woods to lock up the criminals. Upon discovering the ambushes, the group of group drug carriers called in their accomplices to rescue them, then frantically opened fire and threw grenades at the police. The confrontation lasted for 3 hours until the criminals moved away and withdrew to the other side of the border.
At 3 am, they placed weapons at his feet, scooped up salt-dipped rice balls, served with green peppers in the cold rain of the forest in late spring. The ambush team remained at the scene waiting for the inventory of drugs, military weapons that the smuggling group had dumped and the criminal corpses had just been destroyed.
Almost twenty years in uniform, the 41-year-old colonel is most reminiscent of the 28th and 29th of Tet. The men of his family went down the street to buy kumquats, they in turn brought helmets and bulletproof spears into the deep forest, ambushing the criminals. He said, there were times of eating in the forest for a week, not bathing, not brushing, biting, wetting shoes, not washing, stink, causing mice to bite on bloodied toes when taking advantage of taking a nap.
The scout trooper’s adult commander clearly remembered entering the forest a total of 100 times, but he only fought successfully in 57 battles. There are secret ambushes throughout the week, but they cannot be deployed for many reasons. There was a decided moment, like “No. 28” in winter 2015, but his whole life “will never forget”. That year, the special Task Force brought hoes and shovels to excavate for fortifications. Throughout the night, they cleaned every shovel of mountain dirt. Some soldiers bleed their hands, but they dare not say a word.
The excavation is complete, the team is in standby position, until the third day. Around 2:00 am, they saw an ethnic woman lighting a flashlight, followed by a 5-year-old girl. They are both barefoot. The scout reported that she had brought food for the drug trafficking group. After resting, they walked very fast, on par with the woman and child, falling directly into the sniper range.
Mai Hoang claimed that at that time, with weapons and tools in hand, the force was in complete control of the drug trafficking group. The finger in front of the trigger tried several times, but the sight on the barrel of the gun was pointed at the boy’s bare feet. You can’t order me to pull the trigger. The task force overcame feelings of destroying public criminals and ultimately did not fire.
“After repentance, only hatred for criminals remained. Once in the deep forest, the functional forces were even recklessly pursued by drug traffickers,” he said, recalling that it was “an extreme emotion. Period of pain, when the police soldier he is persecuted by criminals in his own land. “
But most heartbreaking, the battle that witnessed the sacrifices of his peers, became even more moving when he saw his loved ones cry and faint, receive their national certificates. He said to himself: “Perhaps one day those who obtain the certificate of the Homeland for recognition will also be his parents. But if there is that day of bad luck, we also feel that it is glory.
Colonel Hero of the Armed Forces in the era of doi moi, affirmed that criminals could not blatantly invade the territory of drug trafficking. Package of salted salt, hot pepper, as an educational message reminding that the honor of the policeman is the most sacred. Trophies, medals received are honored, then folded and considered as beautiful memories to continue striving.
The X Congress of Patriotic Emulation was held from December 9 to 10 in Hanoi, with the theme “Solidarity, creation, emulation for construction and national defense.” 2,020 official delegates divided into 133 delegations, representing many fields. More than half of these are examples of advanced excellence, direct labor production in the fields of economy, culture, society, national defense, and security.
The police force has 55 delegates, of which 4 individuals received the title of Hero of the Popular Armed Forces of the doi moi era.
