In the morning, we started recruiting volunteers to participate in the clinical trial of the Covid-19 vaccine called Nanocovax, said Do Minh Si, Director of Research and Development at Nanogen, The vaccine is expected to cost around 120,000 VND / dose.
According to Si, Nanogen calculated the cost of the vaccine when it was marketed based on production costs, clinical trial costs, and many other related costs.
“The cost per vaccine dose is about 120,000 VND. Nanocovax has a total of 2 doses. So a person will lose about 240,000 VND to perform the Covid-19 vaccination,” emphasized Mr. Si.
Nanogen Research and Development Director Shares Cost of One Dose of Covid-19 Vaccine
According to plan, by quarter 4/2021, the clinical trials plan will be completed. In particular, Nanogen targets the Covid-19 vaccine to be effective in protection. Equivalent to other products in the world is that more than 90% of people injected can produce an immune response.
Also, during clinical research, Nanogen will produce and upgrade the factory to increase the production scale to 50-70 million doses / year (compared to the current 2 million doses / year). This capacity will first cover domestic demand and then export the Covid-19 vaccine abroad.
Mr. Si said, the Military Medical Academy has considered a contingency plan, mobilizing Hospital 103, National Institute of Burns … to ensure adequate facilities for testing.
According to Mr. Si, there are 3 reasons to help Nanocovax be studied in a very fast time. TFirst of all, the recombinant protein technology used to produce the Nanocovax vaccine has been applied by Nanogen for approximately 10 years and many products have been launched.
“We have a lot of experience creating the right protein for vaccine production. So the implementation time is very fast.”
Second, Nanogen has a large investment in the Covid-19 vaccine.
Third, since Covid-19 is an epidemic, the Ministry of Health and other authorities have been very supportive. From there, Nanogen can considerably shorten the time.
Mr. Do Minh Si, Director of Development Research at Nanogen
Since May 2020, Nanogen Company has started researching and producing the Covid-19 vaccine. This is a project ordered by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The Covid-19 vaccine called Nanocovax provides a good immune response, high safety, fewer side effects, and more favorable storage conditions than other vaccines (storage 2 ° C – 8 ° C). ).
After the clinical trial of Balb / c mice, hamsters and monkeys showed very good results, Nanogen applied for a license to test the Covid-19 vaccine in humans.
On the morning of December 9, the Ethics Council / Ethics Committee in Biomedical Research of the Ministry of Health met and approved the clinical trial of the Nanocovax vaccine. As of December 10, Nanogen Company in collaboration with the Military Medical Academy (Ministry of Defense), began the process of testing vaccines in humans.
