Currently, the person who is taking over and taking care of this house is Ms. Dinh Thi Long (82 years old). Ms. Long said that the person who built the house was her husband’s grandfather, the elderly Luong Van Xien, a famous stone maker in the area. In 1875, Xien participated in the construction of the Phat Diem stone church (Kim Son district, Ninh Binh). When the church was completed, Xien invited a group of about 30 workers to return home to build this stone house.
The whole house can be seen from the outside. The wall of the fence was carved in the shape of yin and yang coins. On the door to celebrate the house’s opening year is 1934, above is a letter engraved with Confucius. At the entrance of the house, upstairs there is a gazebo, also made of greenstone.
According to Ms. Long, to build this house, Ms. Xien had to build banana rafts and carry rocks from the mountain more than 1 km from her home. The house was built for almost 2 years to complete, only later will the conditions be available to add the door. It took 15 years (from 1919 to 1934) to complete the new house.
“I don’t know how much money the old man spent to build a house, I just found out, he spent a lot of gold. At that time, he was a wealthy man in the village who was able to build a flat house. Working time is prolonged because I do it very meticulously, I don’t like the tool to start over, ”said Ms. Long.
Speaking of the value of the house today, Ms. Long said: “Before my grandfather died, I told my children and grandchildren to keep them forever and not to sell them to anyone because my father had to eat Porridge, Eat vegetables to save money to build this house. Last year, some people came to visit us and paid 10 billion dong to buy, but even if I paid 100 billion, I would not sell. “
The owner of the house said that during the period when the United States bombed the north, the house was hit by a bomb, some beams, columns, the house was broken, cracked, the roof almost blown off. Ms. Long’s husband had to reattach the broken and fractured stitches. In 2014, the descendants were restored again to make a place of worship.
