Final: Leicester 1-2 Fulham
Scored: Barnes (86) – A. Lookman (30); Ivan Cavaleiro (38 pens)
Leicester resolution: sublimation in away field, bad at home |
Against opponents deemed too weak, coach Brendan Rodgers confidently uses a lineup of players with good attacking skills such as Youri Tielemans, Dennis Praet and James Maddison. The job of these names, as usual, is to create opportunities for main forward Jamie Vardy.
However, what happened at King Power went against expectations as Fulham proved to be extremely determined, focused and a tighter defensive player than usual. It wasn’t until the 19th minute that Leicester created the first delicious dining opportunity. Unfortunately, Tielemans hit the post again. Wesley Fofana in an attempt to hit the counterattack also brought the ball to the crossbar.
In the 26th minute, Vardy had a rather subtle heel kick from Praet’s cross line, but failed to beat goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. Four minutes later, Fulham suddenly took the lead with a very exemplary counterattack. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa dribbled vigorously from the home field and opened the gap for Ademola Lookman to escape, defeating Kasper Schmeichel unaccompanied.

Not in time to recover after the goal, Leicester added a “slap”. In the 35th minute, Christian Fuchs collided with Bobby De Cordova-Reid in the penalty area and after consulting the VAR, the referee decided to give Fulham a penalty. From a distance of 11 meters, Ivan Cavaleiro tricked Schmeichel into doubling the gap for the visitors, also the final result of the first half.
To lose 2 quick goals in the first half, coach Rodgers was forced to “do it all” when he put the top two attackers on the bench, Cengiz Under and Harvey Barnes, on the field just after the break. But these changes could not help make Leicester’s success more successful.

Leicester exerts suffocating pressure with overwhelming possession. However, Fulham’s worst Premier League defense (conceding 18 goals in 9 rounds) had an unexpectedly safe day, nearly “killing” Vardy and blocking all lines of the ball to the front of the jersey. Number 9.
Not just a stalemate, Leicester also nearly received an “injury code recovery” in the 74th minute when Lookman had a chance to finish in the penalty area. Fortunately for the home team, goalkeeper Schmeichel maintains his focus to deny the 23-year-old forward a brace.
It took Leicester just 85 minutes to cut the score. Midfielder Tosin Adarabioyo has a header that sends the ball into the correct position … Vardy. The English forward immediately made a wall to help Barnes hit Areola’s net from close range.
Leicester only won 1 goal at the end of the game thanks to Barnes |
The few minutes remaining are not enough for Leicester to draw, thus receiving a final defeat by 1-2. The “wolves” are buried in 4th place with 1 point less than Chelsea and are still 3 points behind the first. This is the third loss for coach Rodgers and his students after 5 games (2 wins) played at home this season, in contrast to the high performance of being invited (4 wins, 1 loss).
