Why didn’t Bernd Leno wear the goalkeeper jersey against the Wolves?

The Arsenal goalkeeper uniform this season is green. But last night, the German goalkeeper did not dress as a goalkeeper on the field but instead wore a white jersey and the Arsenal uniform on the visitor field.

The reason behind Leno’s odd choice of jersey was that Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio came onto the field in the same color. The rules of the Premier League state that two goalkeepers cannot use the same color. This rule is to ensure that the referee does not make a mistake in the event that goalkeepers join the attack at a corner kick.

The responsibility to change shirts is Arsenal’s because the Wolves are out and there is no second option for the goalkeeper. And Leno was forced to wear a white t-shirt to play. Arsenal also confirmed that Leno had to change his jersey, but declined to comment on the absence of a different colored backing for the goalkeeper.

In the Arsenal online store, Leno wears a different black jersey. The reason is probably because referee Michael Oliver also wore black yesterday.

Leno is currently Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper. This season he has kept three clean sheets for the London side in the Premier League. However, to make up for the secure defense, Arsenal had to sacrifice a lot of firepower and now only have 10 goals after 10 rounds.
