Thousands of red melon trees planted in Old Farmer Tuyen Quang’s valley are very valuable to everyone.
Referring to Mr. Nong Van Thang (SN 1955, resident of Dong Danh Village, Duc Ninh Commune, Ham Yen District, Tuyen Quang) many people still happily call him by the nickname “King of the North”.
It is not a coincidence that people give Mr. Thang that nickname. The reason is that he has an orchard with thousands of valuable trees. Evergreen trees are more than 10 years old, new trees can be planted for 5-7 years.
At the end of 2017, the reporter had the opportunity to visit Mr. Thang’s garden. This “treasure” is located deep in a valley in the commune of Duc Ninh, surrounded by towering mountains. Besides the red melon, Mr. Thang also planted many other fruit trees like grapefruit, jackfruit, oranges … and released more chickens and raised fish.
Thang trusted, in 2006, the wood was a “hot” product in the market, it was bought by traders at very high prices. At that time, he was the Head of the Dong Danh Village Farmers’ Collective Branch.
Once, by chance, Mr. Thang read in the newspaper and discovered that there was a very successful melon growing model in Vinh Phuc. He and some people from the car rental association went to Vinh Phuc to find sources of seeds.
After learning from experience, he bought hundreds of seedlings to plant in his home garden. Realizing the economic value of milk, the tree is very suitable for the land and climate in Dong Danh, Mr. Thang bought more trees to plant.
Thus, each year Mr. Thang planted a few more trees. He took care of the seedlings and planted them, wherever the land was, he planted milk in that area.
On November 26, 2020 (after about 3 years), PV contacted Thang again. He shared that his family’s garden is still developing well. Every day Mr. Thang is still around to be friends with the garden, take care of the garden, the grapefruit garden, the fish pond …
It is a fact that Mr. Thang revealed that so far he cannot remember how many trees he planted, but he estimated that it was around 3-4 thousand trees. With an area of about 4 ha, there are plantations that Mr. Thang has not visited for 2-3 years.
Thang added that, compared to 3 years ago, he sold 25 trees in his garden, earning no less than 2 billion VND. In particular, he sold the “nest”, the largest and straightest tree in the garden.
“I do not intend to sell that tree, but earlier this year, by not paying attention, it will be damaged by fungus on the branches, if not sold, it will be damaged. The tree has a core diameter of about 30cm, it will sold more than 500 million VND, “Mr. Thang speaking.
When the reporter asked him about the fear of theft, Mr. Thang laughed. Because the way to his house is unique, he said, there is no other way, around many brothers and relatives, so he is not afraid of theft.
In addition, Mr. Thang also participates in a planters’ association in the North. Almost anyone can get hold of mangrove deals. Therefore, if there is a theft, it is very easy to trace the origin of the mangrove sold.
