On November 23, Reuters and many top media sources informed sources that the mysterious US official who had just visited Taiwan on a military plane was Rear Admiral Michael Studeman of the US Navy.

This is an unannounced visit.

Studeman, the two-star admiral in the US Army, is currently the director of J2. This is the agency in charge of intelligence operations under the Indo-Pacific Command of the United States Army.

According to Reuters, Studeman is the highest-ranking US military officer to have visited Taiwan in many years.

The Taiwanese diplomatic service previously confirmed information about the arrival of a US official on the island, but kept his identity and hours private.

According to experts, if Admiral Studeman were really in Taiwan, surely China would “go crazy.”

“The United States and Taiwan interact often. We welcome the visit of US officials. However, the information and the schedule of the visit will not be made public. We do not explain or comment further, ”said Joanne Ou, spokeswoman for the Taiwan diplomatic service.

Previously, the United Daily News of Taiwan confirmed that US officials arrived on the island with military equipment, without a number.

Plane Finder said a flight from Hawaii, the headquarters of the US Army’s Indo-Pacific Command, arrived at Songshan Airport, Taiwan, on November 22.

Since the beginning of this year, China has sent 1,760 military aircraft to Taiwan’s air defense identification zone.

Observers say the visit to Taiwan by a senior military official like Studeman is “unusual and unprecedented”, it will inevitably make China angry and act tougher on the island.

“The visit of an American admiral to Taiwan is unusual and unprecedented. I believe that Mr. Biden’s new administration should rethink the US official’s visits to Taiwan in the future. The risks of these activities outweigh the benefits, ”said Drew Thompson, a former US Department of Defense official.

“If that official is really a director of J2, I’m sure this is unprecedented,” said Douglas Paal, former director of the United States Representative Office in Taiwan.

“In Beijing there are increasing calls for the use of force to unify Taiwan. These visits are a condition that motivates the Chinese military to act at any time, ”said Zhou Chenming, a Beijing-based military expert.
