Twitter will relinquish control of the POTUS (US President) account to Joe Biden when he is sworn in on inauguration day, even if President Donald Trump does not admit defeat.
Twitter is “actively preparing to support the conversion of Twitter accounts related to the White House on January 20, 2121,” Twitter spokesman Nick Pacilio told Politico on November 20.
According to him, this process is being carried out in consultation with the National Archives of America (NA), as it was in 2017.
The replica will see all posts on the POTUS Twitter accounts, as well as FLOTUS (First Lady of America) and VP (Vice President) and other existing official accounts, on file.
These accounts will be reset to 0 posts and then transferred to Mr. Joe Biden’s White House account on the same day.
President Donald Trump primarily uses his personal account @realDonaldTrump, which has 88 million people, while a POTUS account has 32 million followers. The POTUS account is largely used for re-sharing of posts on Trump’s personal account, as well as the White House and other accounts.
Twitter has long been under pressure regarding President Donald Trump’s use of the social network to post posts related to the US elections. While Donald Trump shares around 58,000 tweets, Joe Biden, with an account of 19 million followers, shares around 7,000 tweets.
