Russia detects strains of nCoV

Russian officials say that the CoV strains are showing up in Siberia, when the country has recorded a new record number of deaths.

“We have seen certain changes in the Siberian region, leading to the assumption that the region is forming its own specific virus variants,” said Anna Popova, director of Human Rights Watch. Consumption and Human Rights of the Russian Federation (Rospotrebnadzor) said today.

Popova did not provide details on assessing the infectious or life-threatening extent of the strains, but said it would make nCov more dangerous.

According to a September study in the United States, there is little evidence that the strains that cause nCoV are more lethal, concluding that the severity of Covid-19 depends largely on the underlying medical condition and genetic factors of the patient.

Rinat Maksyutov, general director of the Russian Institute of Vector Virology, emphasized that the variables of the strain cannot influence the effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine. This research facility is home to the development of a second Russian-licensed Covid-19 vaccine, called EpiVacCorona, which began Phase Three testing on November 16 and is expected to last six months.

Russia, the world’s fifth-largest epidemic region, today recorded 22,410 more nCoV infections and a record 442 deaths in 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections and deaths to 1,971,013 and 33,931, respectively.

In Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin extended the distance learning time for students in grades 6-11 by two weeks, until December 6. He said the measure has proven effective in preventing nCoV from spreading from young relatives to the elderly.
