China congratulated Biden on his choice

China congratulates Joe Biden, almost a week after the US media named him the winner of the presidential election.

“We respect the decisions of the American people. We would like to congratulate Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Uong Van Ban during a press conference in Beijing today.

China congratulated President-elect Biden quite late compared to many other countries. When asked why Beijing had not congratulated Biden on his victory on November 9, at a press conference on November 9, Uong said that he would follow international practice in the US elections.

“We know that Mr. Biden has declared victory. We also understand that the results of the US presidential elections will be determined in accordance with US law and process,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said at the time.

Before China, the leaders of many countries sent messages of congratulations to Biden and expressed their desire to cooperate with the new administration, as soon as the media identified him as president-elect.

Meanwhile, US President Trump still refused to agree to lose this year’s election and launched a series of lawsuits over “voter fraud” allegations in 6 states. The Republican party is said to be divided, with many tacitly acknowledging Biden and wanting him to accept classified reports, while others wanted to join Trump in clearing up allegations of voter fraud.

The Trump administration has made no move to transfer power to Biden, as the Public Service Administration (GSA) has yet to sign a document recognizing the Democratic candidate as the winner, and the Department of Administration and The House Budget Blanca (OMB) is still pushing Trump’s 2021 budget plan.

Relations between the United States and China are at their worst in decades due to disputes ranging from technology and trade to Hong Kong and Taiwan issues and the Covid-19 pandemic. The Trump administration has launched a series of sanctions against Beijing, while China is also determined not to give in to pressure from the United States.
