On Wednesday, Beijing approved the “Decision of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of China on the status of the member of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.”
This decision establishes that the members of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong have acted in favor of the policy of “the force that promotes the independence of Hong Kong”; refusing to acknowledge that China has and exercises sovereignty over Hong Kong; seek foreign or non-Chinese power to interfere in Hong Kong affairs; or that damages national security in another way, will immediately lose the status of parliamentarian of the Legislative Assembly.

The Chinese journalist also recalled that Article 79 of the Basic Law – Hong Kong’s mini-constitution – under the international agreement with the United Kingdom, requires a 2/3 majority of the votes in the LegCo to remove a congressman. .
A dispute over whether a deputy will occupy the post will require a court ruling.
But Beijing can now use the direct decision of the National Assembly to remove Hong Kong MPs.
Without waiting until then, all the non-Beijing elected members have left.
Furthermore, according to British newspapers, the Beijing government no longer “pretends” to let Hong Kong’s limited democracy work.
