According to The Hill, on November 10, Chief Policy Officer James Anderson, Pentagon Chief Intelligence Officer Joseph Kernan, and Mark Esper Chief of Staff Jen Stewart sent letters to resign. it will take effect immediately.
Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller issued a statement saying: “I would like to thank Dr. Anderson, Admiral Kernan and Ms. Jen Stewart for their service to the nation and the Department of Defense. During their careers, each of them has contributed greatly to the defense of the country and the future of the Department of Defense. We wish them the best in their next projects ”.
The quick exit comes the day after President Donald Trump fired Mark Esper via Twitter.
According to the Pentagon, Kernan had planned to resign a few months ago. His replacement was Ezra Cohen Watnick, the acting assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Low-Level Conflict and Special Operations.
Meanwhile, replacing Mrs. Stewart will be Mr. Kash Patel on the payroll of the National Security Council. Mr. Patel will currently serve as Acting Secretary of Defense Miller’s Chief of Staff. Mr. Anthony Tata, a retired army general, replaced Mr. James Anderson.
More resignations are expected to be submitted in the coming days and weeks.
