According to the Deputy Prime Minister, we currently conduct medical examinations and treatments for health insurance, the face value of each person has increased over the years, the current rounded figure is 1.1 million / person / year. Compared to other countries in the region, this number is less than 1/3 compared to the Philippines, less than a quarter of Thailand. While drug prices, we can manufacture many drugs, but more than 90% of raw materials are still imported from abroad, so the current drug price is cheaper than drug prices in countries of ASEAN, but only 15% cheaper.
“So Social Security can’t pay for all drugs, but only common drugs, very expensive drugs, brand name drugs … the patient has to pay the money,” said the good deputy prime minister.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Vietnam currently spends around 120 billion VND on medicines each year, but health insurance pays around 36-37%, a still high rate compared to other countries in the world.
Regarding the solutions to overcome this situation, the deputy prime minister said that it is necessary to maintain and increase health insurance coverage, currently only by 90.7%, while the average nominal value is only 1.1 million. copper. Therefore, it is necessary to increase people’s income in order to increase health insurance premiums. At the same time, the state budget must have revenue to support a lot. So this is a “long and ongoing story.”
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, many patients and their families reflect the assessment that due to the refusal, there is a link between the treating physician and the pharmaceutical representatives and pharmacies to “divide the food” commission.
“This has been in the health sector for many years, and we can say that there is a phenomenon, but that is not all. To overcome this situation, the only way is to make it transparent. All with information technology, because there are about 20,000 medicines and services, with millions of examinations / year, it cannot be controlled without computerization ”- emphasized the deputy prime minister.
