Bloomberg cites data collected through the Oura health monitoring device showing that Americans lose sleep at a record high this year on presidential election night.

The ring-shaped device worn on the user’s finger, designed in Finland, shows that the average American sleep time is reduced to 6.5 hours, compared to the usual 7 hours, and this is a record low year.

This technological ring measures blood pressure, body temperature, body movements and displays data through an application installed on a mobile phone.
Data from the night of the presidential election also shows that more people have increased heart rates, stress and anxiety than usual. The next night, bedtime returned to normal.
Oura Medical Company statistics are based on aggregation of anonymous data from tens of thousands of users in the US and extrapolations to estimate the total US population.

The company says it has sold more than 150,000 health tracking rings around the world. Investors in the company include American actor Will Smith, American basketball star Shaquille O’Neal, while Prince Harry is among those who use the device.
