The reason determined by the Ministry of Transportation is that there are two layers of soft soil under the hard crust, widely distributed in the incident area and groundwater is produced. However, in implementing the project, this phenomenon has not been found to be fully addressed.
“The design consultant has not discovered and has not proposed an additional survey when the section of the route passes through areas with special and unfavorable topographic, geological and hydrological conditions” – concludes the Ministry of Transport. Later, when the construction unit was organizing the repair, the Gia Lai province police requested a pause to investigate.
More than 100 m of road have sunk
Speaking with the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reporter on November 7, the PMU 6 representative said that next week he will meet with the relevant units to implement corrective measures according to the plan established by the Ministry of Transportation. Specifically, the subsidence road was inspected, the geology reassessed, and a new design plan developed.
“The construction unit will reprocess the foundation, reinforce the soft soil layer underneath and complete the construction. In this new plan, the elevation will be lowered, not the old one” – PMU 6 representative said.
Previously, as the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported, the route that passed through the Ho Chi Minh Highway, passing through Chu Se district, Gia Lai province, was built from May 2018 to March 2019, completed. The highway is almost 11km long, including 3 tender packages with 4 construction units. The total investment of the highway is 250 billion VND. Although the road has not been delivered, it has been seriously damaged, the road surface of more than 100 meters has been broken, sunk and cracked.
