One of the tagged tweets that were supposed to verify Trump’s information was “We won boldly, but they’re trying to steal the election.”
Furthermore, the AFP news agency also verified a number of other allegations of electoral fraud circulating on social media.
Biden’s votes soared in Michigan
The number of votes for Joe Biden in Michigan soared to more than 138,000 votes on the morning of Nov. 4, prompting accusations online of playing dirty in the vote count.
“While everyone slept and after everyone returned home, the Democrats in Michigan discovered 138,339 votes, miraculously, did all those 138,339 votes elect Mr. Biden?” wrote a Twitter user.
However, according to AFP, it is a human error to have overwritten a zero on votes counted. Michigan state election officials quickly corrected the mistake, but an independent analyst’s real-time report denounced it as fraud.
“I accidentally added a zero. By the time we discovered the bug, we fixed it, it took us about 20 minutes, so I was surprised to see this information spread so quickly.” – Caroline Wilson, Michigan’s Shiawassee County Clerk, admits.
Consequently, because he accidentally added a zero balance, the state of Michigan has added 153,710 votes to Mr. Biden instead of the actual number of 15,371 votes. After correcting the error, 138,339 votes were removed from Biden’s total vote, while there was no change in Trump’s numbers.
Sharpie brush fraud in the state of Arizona
Voters in Arizona are reported to have been forced to use a Sharpie brush to fill out their ballots, making ballots difficult to read and preventing Trump’s votes from being counted.
“The staff took the pens of the voters and forced them to use the Sharpie. The Sharpie was stained. All the votes that used the Sharpie pencil were unreadable,” an information posted on Facebook.
In a video posted with the same article, a man said: “Everyone comes here to vote for Donald Trump, and those votes are worth nothing.”
However, US officials, including Arizona foreign affairs official Katie Hobbs, insisted that using a Sharpie pen will not invalidate votes and voters also have the right to bring their own writing.
“Important: If you vote directly on a universal ballot, your vote will count, no matter what type of pen you use (even a highlighter).” Ms. Hobbs wrote on Twitter.
Reuters reported that this rumor prompted more than 100 Trump supporters to gather at a building used as a counting site in the city of Phoenix on November 4 and ask to be inside the venue to verify the votes.
Too Many Voters in Wisconsin?
The AFP news agency also found that there were many social media posts claiming that the number of people who participated in the 2020 elections in Wisconsin exceeded the total number of registered voters.
“Wisconsin is reporting over 101% of voters! 3,170,206 votes have been counted. 3,129,000 registered voters,” wrote one Instagram user.
However, the previous post and other posts with similar content incorrectly mentioned the number of registered voters in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Elections Commission said that as of Nov. 1, the number of voter registrations stood at 3,684,726 and could still increase after that.
Reid Magney, an employee of the Wisconsin Elections Commission, warned that the figures mentioned on the Internet could be the old ones from the previous days.
