HCMCThe child was born in the Thu Duc district hospital, left by his parents at the age of two days, it has been two months now.
Dr. Tran Thi Dieu Linh of the Pediatric Resuscitation Department of Thu Duc District Hospital said that on August 26, pregnant woman Ho Thi Thu, 37, registered in the hospitalization file, is a permanent residence in Dong Thap, giving birth. the child weighs 1.9 kg. The baby was born without crying, his body turned purple, and he had to be resuscitated and actively treated in the Pediatric Recovery Department.
Doctors judged that the baby could suffer fetal failure from the womb, leading to sepsis, respiratory failure and pulmonary dysplasia. The mother did not provide a history of prenatal care, so it was unclear what the gestational age was at the time of the baby’s birth.
Two days after the birth, the mother stabilizes her health and leaves the hospital. Since then, she and her husband Bui Van Ly (information on admission papers to the hospital) have not returned to the hospital to receive and care for their children.
“The hospital has repeatedly contacted the family through the phone number provided in the hospitalization record, suggesting that they accept the child, but they use many reasons for refusing, such as saying the wrong number or not answering the phone,” Ms. Nguyen Thi My Chau, Head of the Department of Social Work, Thu Duc District Hospital, information.
Currently, the child is over two months old, he still breathes oxygen through his nose, but his health is improving. The baby has steadily gained weight, has reached 2.6 kg, has flexible limbs. Pneumonia, sepsis are actively treated, almost completely. With a favorable health evolution, the baby can be discharged in the next few days.
The hospital reported the incident to the People’s Committee of Tam Phu Ward, Thu Duc district, and coordinated with the local government at the address provided by the pregnant woman upon admission, hoping to find a relative for the baby. In case the family does not respond, the baby will be transferred to an orphanage, according to regulations.
“The baby is on the list of abandoned children in the hospital, but we are still waiting for his parents to come and accept the child. If the family has financial difficulties, the hospital will pay for the cost of the baby’s treatment,” he said. Chau said.
The Thu Duc District Hospital has repeatedly had to search for relatives of abandoned children. In 2019, two premature babies with respiratory failure and underweight were also abandoned by their mothers in the hospital. Upon healing, her grandmother picks up the baby. The other child was transferred to a social protection center.
In late July, the hospital also received a child with multiple deformities in critical condition, with no relatives. Two months later, the boy’s parents knew the boy was still alive, so they went to the hospital to request the boy.
