At around 11:30 pm on the night of November 2, the first anniversary party of Bar X5 began, after the shout of “congratulations” went off for the series of electric flares in the stage area.

A few minutes later, the roof of the bar on stage was on fire, many people in the bar ran out. “When people see smoke, they go crazy, many people step on their feet to escape,” said a witness.

After that, flames engulfed the inside of the bar, black smoke was emitted outside. The fire department arrived at the scene but had difficulty accessing the interior, as the store had a single main door and was covered by a sloping and covered object. Functional forces had to destroy the wall to put out the fire inside.

On the morning of November 3, Lieutenant Colonel Bui Minh Tien, Vinh Phuc provincial public security chief, said that upon entering the bar, the police discovered three girls in the bathroom, with the door closed. These three people were taken to the emergency room but died at the hospital from asphyxiation.

“These three girls managed to get out but they went back to the second floor to collect things, maybe after that a lot of smoke made them panic, so they went to the bathroom to take refuge,” said Lieutenant Colonel Tien Tien.

Representatives of the Vinh Phuc province police claimed that the initial cause was due to the spark from the electric cannon flying towards the balloon with pumped hydrogen gas, which started a fire and spread to the ceiling.

The authorities reported that the two victims, aged 18 and 19, in Soc Son and Ba Dinh (Hanoi), the other 18-year-old victims in Lao Cai, were dancers invited to attend the anniversary of the bar.

Authorities continue to clarify the matter.
