Hurricane Goni is the strongest storm in the world this year. The storm reached a wind force of 225 km / h and shot up to 310 km / h.

Philippine authorities evacuated nearly 1 million people to safety before Typhoon Goni hit the country’s eastern provinces. The storm caused landslides in Catanduanes and Albay in the Bicol area.

According to Reuters, the local Meteorology Department predicts that “strong winds and intense storms” will hit the provinces of the Bicol region, some areas in Quezon, Laguna and Batangas.

Manila is in the path of Typhoon Goni.

Meteorologist Lorie dela Cruz said Quezon province was likely to experience a third landslide on November 1.

The Philippine Disaster Management Agency estimates that between 19 and 31 million people could be affected by the storm.

Authorities issued warnings that the intensity of the storms could increase and urged residents at evacuation centers to practice social segregation to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Dozens of international and local flights have been canceled under the direction of the civil aviation agency. The agency also ordered the one-day closure of Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the main gateway to Manila.

According to Reuters, Goni is among the strongest storms to land in the Philippines since Haiyan, a storm that has claimed 6,300 lives since 2013.

Goni arrives after the Molave storm hit the country last month. Twenty-two people were killed by the storm, most from drowning in the southern provinces of Manila.
