Turkey’s Agency for Disaster Prevention, AFAD, announced a 6.6 magnitude earthquake on October 30, while the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 7 earthquake.

The earthquake occurred in the Aegean Sea with its epicenter in the area about 17 km from Turkey’s Izmir province, 16 km deep, according to AFAD. The USGS published other data.

Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced on Twitter that at least four people were killed and 120 injured in the disaster.

The earthquake caused the collapse of at least six buildings in two districts of Izmir, according to Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu. Videos circulated on social media showed that the earthquake shook the city of Izmir, and many people ran away. Environment Minister Murat Kurum said there were some people buried in the rubble and he knew that five buildings had collapsed.

In addition, there is also a video of the increase in areas flooded by the tsunami near the sea, believed to be the town of Sigacik in Izmir. Sputnik quoted Izmir Governor Yavuz Selim Kosger as saying that 20 buildings were destroyed in the province and that the authorities have established a response center.

On the Greek island of Samos, authorities urged people to stay away from coastal areas due to the threat of a tsunami. ERT radio quoted Deputy Mayor Michalis Mitsios as saying that many houses collapsed and were damaged.

The vibes are also felt in cities like Istanbul in Turkey or Athens in Greece. Aftershocks from the earthquake are believed to continue.
