Long periods of heavy rain have caused historic flooding in Quang Binh. In the mountainous Tuyen Hoa district, there are many landslides that cause danger to many homes.
On the morning of October 22, Mr. Cao Xuan Binh, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thach Hoa Commune (Tuyen Hoa District, Quang Binh) said: “Last night 10/21, the commune urgently relocated 21 homes in Ba Con area, Dam Thuy 2 village due to landslides. Currently, there is a huge gap in the mountain, the homes that live below can be crushed at any moment.
According to Binh, after moving people to a temporary safe area, functional forces will dismantle the houses in the affected area.
This flood, Thach Hoa Commune (Quang Binh) flooded more than 1,200 homes with a depth of 1 – 1.2 m, many families had to move to the highlands to avoid flooding. The properties of many people were washed away by the floods.
On October 18, there were 8 households in Kinh Trung Village, Duc Phu Village, Duc Hoa Commune (Tuyen Hoa District) living on the banks of the Gianh River with severe landslides. In which 2 households have broken half of their houses, they can be dumped into the river at any time.
Mr. Vo Duc Truong, Chairman of the Duc Hoa Commune People’s Committee, said that 8 people’s houses in Kinh Trung village were in danger of landslides. The two-family house, Mr. Mai Trung and Mr. Mai Tan, was pierced into the house by flood water, slid into the river, loosening the foundation, breaking the beam, and cannot live. To ensure safety, the local government ordered the relocation of 2 homes in Ngoc Lam village to avoid shelters.
“The commune has sent militias and self-defense forces to stay in the position of the homes affected by the landslide to monitor and help people at the time an incident occurs. 6 households during the day, but cannot stay at night to ensure safety.
In the long term, district and provincial agencies must be involved and support households to move to a safe place to live.
