At approximately 1 a.m. (October 18), a terrible landslide occurred at the economic and defense team stationed area 337, Military Zone 4 in Cam Village, Huong Phung Commune, Huong Hoa District , Province. Quang Tri. The incident led to the disappearance of 22 buried officers and soldiers, including 4 officers, 10 professional soldiers and 8 soldiers. Five lucky people were rescued, including driver Nguyen Ngoc Huy.
Anh Huy recalled that around 1 a.m., while sleeping in the staff lounge of the administrative division suite, driving and gathering troops, he suddenly heard a loud bang. Immediately, the earth and rock fell, crushing the wall, crushing many rooms in the row.
Hearing the explosion, Mr. Huy jumped up, but was crushed by the wall. Fortunately, a corner of the bathroom wall looked like an A had collapsed and entered. He suffered minor injuries to his head and hands, but got stuck and couldn’t get out. Lying in the rubble, Mr. Huy listened to the officers and soldiers who had escaped before shouting, “Anyone else?” Then he heard the footsteps of people passing by, so he tried to shout “And you too” to hope that his companions would hear him.
Some officials heard “Wait for me, please bring someone to save you immediately.” A few seconds later, a group of officers and soldiers approached Huy’s trapped position, used their hands to flip each piece of concrete, and removed it safely.
Anh Huy said that the block he lived in had 10 rooms, including 10 officers and soldiers. After the mountains and rocks were buried, the entire row from Mr. Huy’s room could only escape 3 people.
“Another 7 brothers could not get out, now they are still lying down …”, Mr. Huy choked, “After being rescued, I heard a loud crash and the rocks fell again …”
According to Huy, of the 5 people who were rescued, 2 of them broke their legs and one had her legs cut off. Another person and Huy were only slightly injured.
