Three goals in the final 10 minutes of the match helped Manchester United defeat Newcastle 4-1 on the night of October 17, despite being led from the second minute.

In the era of the Premier League, Man Utd never lost three in the first four matches. But just two minutes after the game against Newcastle, teachers and students Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were risking a sad record. Luke Shaw, in an effort to lift his foot to block a cross on the right flank, caused the ball to change direction and fly into a tight corner. Goalkeeper David De Gea did not react in time and saw the net vibrate.
Two of the last three marches to St James’ Park, Man Utd failed. This season’s trip has even more coincidences than last’s defeat: in October, Solskjaer is under great pressure and the “red devils” squad lacks pillars. When De Gea’s net vibrated in the second minute, Solskjaer’s face showed a dull look. Clearly, a defeat is not a good preparation for a trip to PSG in the Champions League.
However, Man Utd’s defense, the line was harshly criticized after receiving 11 goals in just three rounds, it was not challenged again in the next 15 minutes. Steve Bruce seemed to want to wait for the opponent’s impatience to take advantage of Allan Saint-Maximin’s speed on counterattacks. Daniel James repeatedly tried to push his way through the middle, although he wasn’t very good at finishing. Mata lacks speed and often comes back and takes care of Fernandes. As a result, in many phases of the ball, the visitors had space but could not deliver the final blow due to lack of people in the penalty area.

In a difficult match, the team that knows how to take advantage of the situation will win. Both Man Utd and Newcastle have those opportunities after the break. In the 51st minute, Saint-Maximin drove the ball to the bottom of the border, tried to drive and passed like Callum Wilson to finish the goal. De Gea is excellent, but Darlow from Newcastle is even more impressive. 58 minutes, thanks to VAR, referee Craig Pawson determined that Rashford was fouled in the penalty area. Eight minutes later, the Newcastle keeper kept crossing in time, reducing Rashford’s shot to the face.
The cards in the sleeves were played by both coaches one after the other after the open play between the second half, but the difference came from the main kickers. In the 86th minute, Solskjaer’s quick and low-key stone intentions were fully promoted. Mata received the ball in midfield, turning his back to counterattack, but immediately turned left towards Rashford. The English striker took advantage of the speed of his break through home territory, before jabbing the slot for Fernandes to slip away, cutting his inner wall, raising the score to 2-1.

Newcastle did not arrive in time with the last minute defeat. Their greater efforts create more opportunities for the red jersey forwards to show their speed. In the 90th minute, Rashford completed a double assist by cutting the ball to the right for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to hit the roof of the net. In the last minute of stoppage time, he made it 4-1 with a needle thread from Darlow, coming out of Fernandes’ slit.
Three full points help Solskjaer teachers and students to be more confident when entering a difficult schedule. After being invited by PSG on October 20, he will face Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton in the Premier League.
