Azebaijan claims its drones (UAVs) destroyed $ 1 billion worth of Armenian weapons in more than two weeks of fighting at the Nagorno-Karabakh hotspot.
Interview with the French television network France 24Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that the UAVs the country used during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Armenia were very modern. Aliyev said that with UAVs bought from Turkey, Azerbaijan destroyed $ 1 billion worth of Armenian military weapons.
Previously, Azerbaijan repeatedly published videos that, according to Baku, recorded unmanned aerial vehicles destroying Armenian convoys, weapons and missiles.
Furthermore, President Aliyev denied that Azerbaijan used mercenaries. Mr. Aliyev said that no country has provided proof of this information and stated that Azerbaijan, with a force of more than 100,000 people, is capable of fighting in the “hot spot” struggle in Nagorno-Karabakh.
In his October 14 speech, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Nagorno-Karabakh had suffered “huge losses” when many members of the armed forces in this area were killed.
Mr. Pashinyan said that Azerbaijan also lost many military assets and troops in the fighting in the last two weeks.
Tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh have persisted for decades. Clashes have flared up again in the area since September 27 between the two countries of the former Soviet Union. The two sides declared martial law and military maneuvers in the fight. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan suffered loss of life and property in the conflict. The Red Cross Organization has warned of a humanitarian crisis with people living in the affected areas, as many civilians have died in recent years.
Although the two countries have reached a humanitarian ceasefire agreement, with Russia as mediator on October 10, this agreement becomes “fragile” when the two sides accuse each other of rape. Moscow also admitted that the agreement was not being fulfilled, and called on both Azerbaijan and Armenia to follow the agreement.
On October 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan telephoned about the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. The two leaders agreed on the importance of implementing the ceasefire agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Previously, Turkey had promised to support Azerbaijan both at the negotiating table and on the battlefield.
