A newborn baby with the entire body covered in thick, hard white scales, accompanied by deep cracks causing burning pain and bleeding, was just born on the afternoon of October 13 at Quang Binh District General Hospital, Ha Giang .
Doctors said the baby was the son of a 31-year-old woman from Bao Yen (Lao Cai) District, who was taken by the family to Quang Binh (Ha Giang) District General Hospital for follow-up. The baby is currently weakening and bleeding through deep fissures.
According to doctors, this is a fish scale skin disease – Harterquin ichthyosis, a very rare disease (only seen in 1 in 500,500 children) due to a recessive genetic mutation on chromosome 2.
This gene plays a role in the synthesis of a protein called ABCA12 in the skin and is responsible for transporting lipids to the epidermis to create a protective barrier for the skin. The absence or absence of the ABCA12 protein in the skin prevents lipids from being transported outwards but deposited on cell membranes, making the horny layer thicker and harder.
Previously, on October 4, Quang Ninh Children’s Hospital had also registered a similar case. CThe evil doctor is taking care of the baby with cream, moisturizer, anti-infective, gauze and physical enhancement for the baby. But because the baby was in pain and crying a lot, the doctors had to use tranquilizers for the baby.
