Off the central east coast of the Philippines, there has been a tropical depression that is likely to “follow” the seventh storm in the South China Sea and intensify to become Typhoon No. 8 this weekend.
The National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasts predicts the risks of multiple natural disasters that bring to our country. Typhoon No. 7 combined cold air and formed a new tropical depression.
Mr. Hoang Phuc Lam – Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasts has analyzed these weather patterns in detail.
Sir, how is the current storm No. 7?
– At 4:00 pm on October 13, Typhoon No. 7 was located on the east coast of Hainan Island (China). The strongest wind near the center of heavy storms Level 9-10, Level 12.
We forecast that for the next 24 hours, the typhoon will travel in a northwesterly direction at a speed of 20 km / h. At 4:00 pm on October 14, the storm center was located in the coastal areas of the North Delta and North Central provinces. At this time, wind power falls to level 8-9, level 11.
What is particularly notable in the scenario of storm No. 7 and what area is the central impact of the storm?
– Storm No. 7 has a wide circulation, interacts with cold northern air, has a stable intensity and will have a weak replenishment capacity on October 15. In the afternoon and tonight, there will be more interactions with the topography of Hainan Island, so changes in the intensity and trajectory of Typhoon No. 7 will be difficult.
The most dangerous impact on the continent is the possibility of storms causing heavy rains in the north and north central regions. The focus of the rain is in the Northern Delta and the coastal provinces, Hoa Binh province, south of Son La, Phu Tho, Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces.
The rain started from the morning of October 14 and lasted until October 16. Common total rainfall is 200-350mm, in some places more than 400mm. The other places are not in the focus area, the rainfall varies between 50-150mm.
Northern mountainous provinces are at risk of flash floods and landslides, and urban areas are at risk of flooding due to prolonged heavy rains. In the Quang Ninh and Hai Phong area, heavy rains accompanied by strong winds, both before and after the storm’s landing.
Floods on the Da, Thao and Hoang Long rivers increased rapidly on October 14 and 15. Also, be aware that the risk of heavy rain due to circulating storms upon arrival in Laos can cause flash flooding in the rivers connecting Thanh Hoa and Nghe An.
Sir, currently on the central east coast of the Philippines, there is an active tropical depression, how is this tropical depression forecast?
– Our distant forecast is that the tropical depression entering the South China Sea on October 15 is likely to turn into a storm.
If this tropical depression strengthens into a storm, the South China Sea will have Storm No. 8 in 2020. This tropical cyclone is expected to move towards the central and south central regions in the coming weekends. The evolution of the orbit and the intensity of this tropical cyclone will depend on the strong overflow of cold air from October 16 to 18.
The Central Central provinces will be able to increase the rains again from October 16 due to the influence of cold air and on October 17 there will be very heavy rains due to the additional circulation of tropical cyclones that are approaching the coast. This next wave of rain in the mid-central region can last until about 19-20.10.
Thank you sincerely!
Labor Golden Heart Charity Foundation cooperates with the National Humanitarian Portal 1400 to implement the “One Million Guns to People of the Floodplain” program.
The program aims to spread, call and encourage Vietnamese organizations and individuals at home and abroad to donate funds to families damaged by natural disasters; especially for workers affected by the rain, floods and the COVID-19 epidemic.
The program receives messages of support from 1.9.2020 until the end of October 30, 2020 with the syntax: BL send 1407. For each message, you have contributed 20,000 VND to activities to help and support people in flooded areas . .
