Mr. Xanh believes that he has 33 years of experience at sea, is in good health, while the crew is in a critical situation, so he should agree immediately.

Silently preparing the necessary items, Mr. Xanh did not announce his decision to his family, because his wife had just undergone heart surgery 2 years ago, so it was “easy to move” if she knew that her husband went to the sea in the middle of bad weather and waves. the sea is 4 to 5 meters high.

Together with Mr. Xanh, Mr. Nguyen Duc Bang (53 years old, a resident of the city of Cua Viet, Gio Linh) recounted, observing the scene showed that the freighter was stranded just over 400 meters from the coast but with strong waves and strong winds. “Many people think that he will doubt, but I went to the sea from the age of 13, I lived and died many times, so when they asked me to take the ransom, I immediately agreed,” Bang said.

Around 9 am on 10/10, the 45CV fishing boat controlled by Mr. Bang, which was transporting Mr. Xanh and two other fishermen out to sea, towards the beached boat.

At this time, the wind is strong, the waves of the sea are high and murky. Seen from the shore, the fishing boat is like a thin sheet that the waves rock and tilt. “Going to the sea at those times you must know how to process the water, choose the direction of the waves and the wind to propel the boat,” said Mr. Bang.

The fisherman recounted the minute he was swept through the water when he rescued the crew members.

After 15 minutes, the fishing boat approached the stranded, anchored boat, Mr. Bang and Mr. Xanh took turns balancing the fishing boat, bringing in and out sea water, the remaining two fishermen threw the buoys and ropes to the sailor.

After assigning the driver of the boat to someone else, Mr. Bang decided to tie the rope to his body and then jumped into the sea, swimming near the railing of the freighter’s cabin. However, when the large waves drove the fishing boat away, Mr. Bang was swept away and, after a while, washed up near the stranded boat. He struggled to remove the rope and climb onto the iron armor of the stranded train, about 10 meters from the cabin. A few minutes later, the Bang fishermen were thrown into the sea by the waves and then swam alone.

At that time, the fishing boat was hit by the waves and gradually sank, Mr. Xanh and a fisherman swam on the bow of the freighter, the other fishermen grabbed onto the iron platform.

At this time, the plan was changed, instead of the fishermen swimming over the waves approaching the freighter, the authorities sent a marine rescuer to accompany the fishermen, using a wire gun to connect to the stranded boat.

At 15:20 on 10/10Mr. Dung led a fishing boat out to sea with a fisherman and a marine rescuer. 10 minutes later, the fishing boat approached the stranded boat, it was carrying out rescue operations when two fishermen were thrown into the sea by the waves. “When I fell into the water, I thought the unmanned fishing boat would sink, but when I got on I saw that the boat still had to try to swim,” Dung recalled.

They got back on the fishing boat, gasped for a while, and then struggled with the wind and waves to transfer two buoys to the fishermen caught in the bow of the freighter. Two stranded fishermen (including Mr. Xanh and another) followed the buoy and rope, swimming past the fishing boat. In the fishing boat at this time there were 5 people, facing another critical situation that the boat was overflowing with water. Mr. Dung quickly led the fishing boat to shore. When I was about 200 meters from shore, the water was about half the fishing boat. All 5 people jumped safely ashore just as the fishing boat almost sank.

Colonel Le Van Phuong, commander of the Quang Tri Border Guard, praised the brave fishermen for saving the crew. “Initially, the rescue relied entirely on the fishermen.
